We all need somebody to lean on
Not much seemed to jump out at me in this reading as the other readings have provoked thoughts. I did, however, enjoy the way the story seemed to flow more easily though not necessarily chronologically in certain places.
One thing I did notice that I liked was in Book VIII lines 445-451 (and the short passage before from Adam). If there was no "imperfection" (for lack of better wording at the moment) at this point in creation, how did Adam even realize he was lonely? He had nothing to compare his lonely state to. He referenced that God was "alone", and Adam had animals more than he could count. Even so that he realized he was alone, I almost feel a negative connotation towards Adam in this passage for being, dare I say, ungrateful for the abundance of blessings already placed before him.
Anyhow, in lines 445-451, God reveals to Adam that it was his plan all along to provide him with a companion. I may contradict myself here in referencing Adam as ungrateful, but this situation is our daily prayer life and life in general with God. He knows what we need, and He wants and plans to give us our needs and wants, but he wants us to ask for them.

God gave Eve as a companion to Adam only when he asked why there was none like him. After counting all of the animals and realizing you were the only one like you other than God, you would question it (at least I would). So God grants Adam his wish and gives him a companion in Eve, to whom Adam is infatuated with at first glance. But this whole situation, to me, plays into the concept that God knew Adam would realize he was alone in likeness and would ask for a friend because God exists outside of time. As you mentioned, God revealed it was His plan all along, but God wanted Adam to realize for himself and ask God, rather than find an animal he liked and called it like him. God, in the end, wants us to lean on Him. Yes, we all want someone to lean on in this world, but God wants us to come to terms that no matter the request or concern, He is the ultimate rock who knows past, present, and future. So trusting in the one that already knows is God's ultimate plan for us.
