Dream or Reality?
I am really over all the bad endings. This is so sad! I was so into the whole story making comments along the way. Then this happens. I was suspicious of a dream, but just because I love the twisted "dream or reality" stories.
On a serious note, did anyone else relate to him on page five with the heavy sickness of heart as he discovered the people's double lives? I related this to being young and innocent and how the evil of the world can just hit you all at once. It can be too much to bear sometimes, so I feel like this was similar to how he felt. For him, it was a dream (or was it really just a dream? More like a realization of life), and it haunted him for the rest of his life just like the thought of the world and people can cause us overwhelming sorrow at times. It really is a sad realization.
PS.. I commented on Ty's and Natalie's posts:)

Not just the evil of the world, but the corruption of your role models... When the people who exemplify your faith all worship Satan, it's no wonder if you lose your faith. Being uncertain about whether or not your role models are corrupt might be even worse; I'm pretty sure there's no answer to the "dream or reality" question for that reason.
