And My Brain Goes *POOF*

I have read this before, but it gets me every time. The thought of not believing God exists is impossible for me because even with everything that has happened in my life, I have witnessed His work on numerous occasions.

With that being said, for me to believe that he did not exist, I would have to see undeniable proof that everything I know about God is false. As the article talks about, the proof would have to be qualified beyond a shadow of a doubt. I paraphrase two points I have used before in discussions with atheists:

1) "In the infinite knowledge and wisdom that can be found in the universe, a human can only know a fraction of a percent of it. In all that knowledge how can one prove or disprove the existence of God?" Typical answer: You can't prove it either way, so why believe?

2) I paraphrase Pascal's Wager. "If what you say is true and God does not exist, why should it matter if I believe or not? I lived a good life and people will remember me as a good man. But... If I am right and God does exist, you have eternity in Hell to contemplate your error." This usually leaves people shocked and speechless.

The fact is, God is beyond human understanding. That is why He is the topic of so much philosophical debate. It is the fact that no one can fully prove or disprove Him philosophically and logically that causes these debates.

P.S. I commented on Sophia and Phillip's posts.

  1. I usually get the same conclusion as your second point. If I'm right, I'm right. But the "if I'm wrong" part always trips me. What IF I'm wrong? What if Allah is the true god? What IF there is NO god at all? It's these questions that you MUST have a deep theological understanding of the Bible and other religious texts to be able to cross compare and show that the Bible is the true Word of God. God wants us to question our faith, however, so He can show to us His presence and glory by answering our questions and prayers.

I always enjoy the infinity topic of God, but that's an endless conversation so we can always come back to it.
