Repetitive
There were
more than a few words that were constantly being repeated throughout this whole
debate. But to name a few: empirical, contingent, necessary, propositions, and
sufficient. Let it be known that it felt
like they were ARGUING ABOUT GRAMMAR A LOT. But I know that’s not what was
actually happening. They constantly wanted reassurance and agreeance on the
meaning of specific words they used just so they could agree. Personally, I didn’t
gain a clear understanding of both arguments but did reach the conclusion about
one thing: Copleston says if the world is sufficient to itself then it needs no
creator, but it is not because men are contingent. But repeatedly Russell says
that there is no cause for the world because he feels that it should not even
be a question. They are centered around the origins of man and if that is
something that needs questioning, and while Copleston very strongly feels that
it needs to be asked, Russell is just continually dismissing the question. They
didn’t reach an agreement and I found the ending to be HILARIOUS.
