Oh, for the Sake of Love!

The thing I just cannot seem to get out of my mind is Faust's change in persona from the beginning of the story to the end due to love. In the beginning, Faust was overcome with sorrow and discontentment. He despaired for something to settle himself. I thought this was going in a more spiritual direction, but I was wrong... I think. Faust was literally desperate enough to sell his soul, and Mephistopheles did not hold out on his end of the bargain. Mephistopheles led him to love and Faust's character changed drastically. It's amazing what love will do to a person (or whatever kind of lust that was). Faust changed from despair and sorrow in himself to longing for Gretchen/Margaret and her well-being. In "Gloomy Day - Field", Faust begs Mephistopheles to save the girl. I think it's beautiful, but then again, I usually don't see the big picture right away.

**BTW Did anyone else drop jaw with Margaret's brother's death speech?????? Wow.
***Also, why are people always making speeches as they die in novels? It never fails, and I just do not understand it.

PS I commented on Ty's and Olivia's posts!:)
