William Blake

Reading poetry is always so hard for me. I honestly dislike it very very very much. There is always so much meaning buried deep within the poetry and it is so hard for me to find. Maybe that makes me shallow, I don't know, or maybe it just means I really don't like poetry. But one that I really enjoyed and made me smile was "The Lamb" by Blake. Though it seems simple, I think this small poem asks the big questions of life. It is asking where did we come from? Who clothed us and loves us? The thing that I love most about it is that both Jesus, and us, are compared to being a lamb. Though Jesus is THE Lamb, "we are called by His name." Isn't that beautiful and hopeful and peaceful?!

I commented on Abigail's and Will's!!

  1. I struggle with poetry, too! I did like "The Lamb" poem, in fact I noticed a lot of references of God in how he is related to nature in Blake's poems. I enjoy when people relate God to things in nature because I think that is the purpose of nature. Very beautiful, indeed!

  2. Poetry is definitely a challenge.

"The Lamb" is a beautiful piece. Blake has a simple yet profound reaching emotions in his readers. He provokes a deep look into oneself and in some cases, a greater praise of God in how he describes nature and life. Even his darker poetry in experience brings about wonder.

  3. Poetry is like food: you can love the taste of some, but spit out something you hate; it is the just the matter of finding something you enjoy and is healthy for you. I personally like tiny poems with subtle meanings that make me feel happy & cozy, so this assignment wasn't really my cup of tea. The lamb is certainly a very beautiful and peaceful poem. I'm happy to know you found at least one poem that you enjoyed reading. (I also enjoy Edgar Allen Poe, but he is an exception)
