Hard Words

'Father, if we are ordered to trample on the Jumie. . . .' Mokichi, head hanging, mumbled the words as though he was talking to himself”
'Trample! Trample!' I shouted. But immediately I realized that I had uttered words that should never have been on my lips.
When I read this part, boy was I challenged.
Considering a theme of sacrifice and faith that is RAMPANT throughout this book, I feel as though Rodriguez's breaking point is the suffering of innocent people at the expense of public display of faith. Yet, as ugly and hard as it sounds, Christ calls us to an unabashed profession of his word and a willingness to die for his sake, since he died for us. Rodriguez knows this, we see since he said he realized he had uttered words that should never have been on his lips. But if I was in his shoes, I would have to honestly consider if I would say anything different.
