The Unholy Trifecta

The Master and Margarita is confusing. I definitely see what Zelda was talking about about it being like Candide, however, atleast Voltaire made more sense and didn't throw Pontius Pilate randomly in the book. I mean, what is up with that? And what is up with the decapitation? Anyway, my main point is that although I see the similarities to Candide, I also noticed a hint of Paradise Lost. The Professor, Choir Master, and the Cat form the Master and Margarita version of Satan, Sin, and Death from Paradise Lost.

To be honest, I'm struggling to get a grip on this novel so far. It just seems like a random compilation of events and characters. Like, why does Ivan have his clothes stolen and why was he dumb enough to leave them in the first place? UGH SO MANY QUESTIONS.

PS I commented on Zelda and Sophia's posts.

  1. Yes, very confusing, I'm with you on that one. But you see, even the unholy trifecta thing blew over my head until you wrote that. That's why I appreciate the blog so much! AS for throwing Pontius Pilate being thrown in, I think it had to do with presenting through the eyes of the unbelieving man in control. Then again, I could be dead wrong.

  2. I like that you have brought attention to the comparison of the professor, choir master, and cat being that of Satan, Sin and Death. But of course I'm partial, being Sin myself;) (lol) On a further note though, I'm anxious to see a greater unfolding of these 3 characters so that, as Will mentioned, we might grasp the meaning in this madness. This is a weird little book (catch my sarcasm on little) but if it has a good point, I'll track with it! Just waiting for the purpose's revelation....
