Will Daylight Ever Come?

I have read Night before, so I definitely know what we're getting into, but it's never an easy story to start again. It's such a saddening story to read and it's such an important account that everyone should read. I completely agree with both Will and Sophia that there are similarities to Silence, in that a lack of hope and the fact that Wiesel's faith is a vey important subject in Night. I've had one particular topic stuck in my head that I think sums up the earlier parts of Night. Loss of humanity. It all starts slowly as the Germans and Hungarian police came into the towns and the started having things taken away. Obviously those things are just possessions and will not take away your humanity, but when they are put into the transports, it starts. They are already probably turning against themselves once they hear they must not have any missing passengers once they arrive at their destination. When the lady is struck in the head to quiet her, you can't help but know you will be seeing much much worse as the story continues. I look forward to discussing the story in class, it's gonna be a sad class.

P.S. I commented on Will and Sophia's posts!

  1. I thought the same thing; I can only imagine how ready they were to turn agains the woman who was screaming fire all night. Also, they even have their names taken away!! They are reduced to numbers! Tomorrow is going to be super sad and heavy...

  2. The removal of humanity that you talked about seems to be recurring thing in history. It's the worst thing you can do to a person. Look at the way the men say that Elie and his dad were better off dying instead of coming to the camps. It's that idea of death being better than bondage, but this bondage was much more than simple kidnapping.
